چکیده

Sagittal trunk motion is accomplished through a coordination of pelvic rotation and lumbar spine flexion/extension. As trunk range of motion in healthy subjects is not fundamentally different to persons with lowback pain (LBP), other means of discriminating the two populations must be used. Research suggests that lumbar-pelvic (LP) coordination could be a potential diagnostic metric for LBP. Though LP coordination has been studied at length, there is little consensus regarding the gross contributions of the lumbar spine and pelvis to total trunk motion; literature values for lumbar to pelvic (L/P) ratios range from 0.4 to 1.97. Such a spread of literature values would pose difficulties for the comparison of healthy and LBP populations. Previous studies have not controlled lifting parameters such as weight or trunk extension velocity as possible influences of LP coordination. A study of the effect of lifting parameters upon LP coordination was performed to provide a complete description of lifting behavior and to assess possible sources of error in previous quantifications of LP coordination.

The effects of bending speed on the lumbo-pelvic kinematics and movement pattern during forward bending in people with and without low back pain

BACKGROUND Impaired lumbo-pelvic movement in people with low back pain during bending task has been reported previously. However, the regional mobility and the pattern of the lumbo-pelvic movement were found to vary across studies. The inconsistency of the findings may partly be related to variations in the speed at which the task was executed. This study examined the effects of bending speeds ...

The Effects of Leg Length Discrepancy on Inter-segmental Coordination between the Spine and Pelvis during Gait: a Dynamical Systems Approach

There are assumptions that leg length discrepancy (LLD) may cause low back pain (LBP) by creating pelvic obliquity and lumbar scoliosis, although the exact means by which LLD causes or augments LBP is not clear. While it is evident individuals with LLD display compensatory movements in the lower limbs and pelvis, there is a scarce research regarding the effects of LLD on spinal motion. In this ...

The Effect of Imagery and Corrective Exercises on Model of Activity of Selected Pelvic Muscles and the Lumbar Hyper Extension Syndrome

Introduction: Lumbar hyper extension syndrome is the second most common category of lumbar syndromes that reduces the height of the disc and narrows the intervertebral foramen in the lumbar vertebrae. The purpose of this study was the effect of exercises (imagery and corrective) on the degree of lumbar hyper extension and the activity of electromyography of the pelvic muscles. Methods: Twenty-...

Inter-rater reliability of three standardized functional tests in patients with low back pain

BACKGROUND Of all patients with low back pain, 85% are diagnosed as "non-specific lumbar pain". Lumbar instability has been described as one specific diagnosis which several authors have described as delayed muscular responses, impaired postural control as well as impaired muscular coordination among these patients. This has mostly been measured and evaluated in a laboratory setting. There are ...

The coordinated movement of the spine and pelvis during running.

Previous research into running has demonstrated consistent patterns in pelvic, lumbar and thoracic motions between different human runners. However, to date, there has been limited attempt to explain why observed coordination patterns emerge and how they may relate to centre of mass (CoM) motion. In this study, kinematic data were collected from the thorax, lumbar spine, pelvis and lower limbs ...
